Bibione is one of the most popular seaside resorts on the northern Adriatic coast. The area is known for its wide sandy beaches, family-friendly atmosphere and excellent cycling routes. Just beyond the main promenade and beach clubs, there is one landmark that you cannot miss, the Bibione Lighthouse.
In this guide, we’ll explore the Bibione Lighthouse, how to reach it, what to see along the way, and how to plan the perfect visit.
The Bibione Lighthouse
The Bibione Lighthouse, Bibione, Italy (known locally as Faro di Bibione), is one of the most recognisable symbols of the resort.
Built in the early 20th century, the lighthouse was designed to guide ships along this stretch of the Adriatic coast and towards the mouth of the Tagliamento River.
The lighthouse is about 40 metres tall and is visible from several kilometres out at sea. While it is no longer permanently staffed, it is fully operational.
Facts about Bibione Lighthouse:
- Location: Eastern end of Bibione, near Bibione Pineda
- Height: approx. 40 metres
- Built: early 1900s
- Access: free outdoor access
- Best time to visit: late afternoon and sunset
How to get to the Bibione Lighthouse by car
One of the easiest ways to visit the lighthouse is by car, especially if you are staying in or around Bibione.
If you are travelling from Venice, which is approximately 100 km away:
1. Take the A4 motorway towards Trieste.
2. Exit at San Donà di Piave or Latisana.
3. Follow signs for Bibione.
4. Once in Bibione, head towards Bibione Pineda and follow local signs to the lighthouse.
There is free parking near the coastal path leading to the lighthouse, but keep in mind that during peak summer hours, availability can be slim.
Pros
- Flexible and convenient
- Easy with families or beach equipment
- Good parking availability
Cons
- Traffic in July and August
- Limited parking at sunset in high season
Alternatively, local buses connect Bibione Spiaggia with Bibione Pineda during the summer months, but services are reduced outside peak season.

Walking to the Lighthouse
Walking to the Bibione Lighthouse is the ideal option if you are nearby. The coastal paths are flat, well-maintained and suitable for visitors of all ages. In fact, walking allows you to fully appreciate the natural scenery.
For example, if you start from Bibione Spiaggia, the walk covers approximately 2.5 kilometres and takes around 30 to 40 minutes one way. Along the route, you will follow the seafront promenade and a series of wooden walkways, always having a stunning view of the sea.
Alternatively, if you begin from Bibione Pineda, the walk is slightly longer at around 3 kilometres and usually takes between 45 and 60 minutes. However, in our opinion, this route is more enjoyable because it passes through shaded pine forest and coastal dunes, making it ideal on warmer days and perfect for those who prefer a quieter, more natural setting.
What to see at the Lighthouse
The main reason to visit the Bibione Lighthouse is undoubtedly the view. From the surrounding paths and viewing points, you can enjoy:
- Panoramic Adriatic Sea views
- The mouth of the Tagliamento River
- Long stretches of unspoilt sandy beach
- Boats and fishing vessels at sea
Sunset is particularly special. On clear days, the sky turns shades of orange and pink, reflecting over the water and creating one of the most romantic spots in Bibione.
Wildlife lovers may also spot seabirds such as gulls, herons and terns, especially near the river area.

What is around the Bibione Lighthouse?
The lighthouse is located in one of the quietest and most natural parts of Bibione.
Nearby beaches
Bibione Pineda Beach is usually much quieter than the main beach in the centre, which makes it a great place to slow down, relax and enjoy the surroundings without the crowds. On top of that, there are several free beach areas with soft sand and shallow waters, so it’s easy to spend a few hours swimming, sunbathing or simply unwinding by the sea, especially if you’re travelling with children.
Activities around the lighthouse
- Coastal cycling paths
- Beach walks and jogging routes
- Picnic areas in a pine forest
- Birdwatching near the river
Facilities
During the main summer season, public toilets are available in the area. In addition, you will find several beach bars and cafés within walking distance, so it’s easy to stop for a coffee, a cold drink or a light lunch. There are also bike rental points inBibione Pineda, which is ideal if you want to explore the coastline on two wheels.
Overall, this area is perfect if you want to escape the busier parts of the resort and enjoy a more natural and peaceful atmosphere, while still having all the essential services close by.
Plan your visit to Bibione Lighthouse now
Whether you are visiting for a day or staying for a full holiday, the Bibione Lighthouse is a must-see attraction.
The best time to visit the Bibione Lighthouse really depends on the experience you want. Spring, from April to June, is perfect for mild weather and fewer crowds, while summer evenings are ideal for enjoying beautiful sunsets in a lively but relaxed atmosphere. September is also a great choice, as the sea is still warm and the area feels much quieter and more peaceful.
If you are planning to visit for sunset, we suggest arriving about an hour before to get the best views. In summer, it’s important to bring water, especially if you’re walking.
You can also combine your visit with a beach afternoon or a cycling trip, and if possible, avoid the midday heat by going early in the morning or later in the afternoon.
