What to do in Porto Santa Margherita

Excursions within biking distance

Ca' Corniani: a journey into the rural heritage of the 19th century

Not far from Porto Santa Margherita, to the north we find Ca’ Corniani, a rural center between the Livenza River and the Brian Canal, which shows a cross-section of rural architecture from the 1800s.

Even today it is still possible to visit the manor house, lodgings for sharecroppers and settlers, or stop to taste and buy excellent wine in the modern wine cellar.

We also suggest visiting the quaint little one-nave church dedicated to St. John the Baptist.

San Gaetano: history and nobility in the smallest hamlet of Caorle

A few kilometers from Porto Santa Margherita we find San Gaetano, the smallest hamlet of Caorle with only 150 inhabitants.

Its famous historical background speaks of noble lineages, international jet set and Nobel laureates.

In fact, this locality was home to the Franchetti barons who made it an agricultural and livestock center, hosting, among others, Henry Fonda and Ernest Hemingway, who was inspired during his stays in this valley to write his book “Across the River, Among the Trees.
